The harder part is deciding which treatment you’d spend your $1,000 on. From a simple skin peel to a more significant transformation with a mommy makeover. There is certainly no shortage of cosmetic or elective treatment options. To help your potential decision-making process, we’ve highlighted some popular treatments with insights from doctors on what they can do for you.

Toxins

The most popular cosmetic treatments are toxins like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, the preeminent wrinkle-fighting treatment. Toxin treatments are especially popular for treating wrinkles, fine lines and crow’s feet. But, there are nearly a dozen possible uses. Everything from reducing sweating to preventing migraines.

There was a time when Botox and similar toxins had a reputation for leaving people with a frozen look. That reputation no longer holds up, and injectors are now producing soft, natural-looking results.

“The crinkles around the eyes are important in conveying a genuine smile,” said Dr. Lara Devgan, a New York plastic surgeon. “I like to soften these wrinkles with Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin to allow patients to still have one or two crinkles and look genuinely happy.”

Fillers

Fillers are one of the most versatile cosmetic treatments. They are commonly used to plump lips or fill hollow areas. They are also successfully used for non-surgical rhinoplasty and to reduce wrinkles. Filler treatments are an effective treatment for looking refreshed without major surgery or downtime. The results are often subtle, but effective.

“One thing I love about lip filler appointments is that you’ll see a difference immediately,” said Vanessa Lee, an aesthetic nurse specialist in Los Angeles.

The majority of filler treatments are done on the face, but fillers can also be used to rejuvenate other areas.

“Most of us forget to take care of our hands, but it’s one area that really can show our age,” said Melissa Berg, an aesthetic nurse specialist in Spokane, Washington.

Non-Surgical Fat Reduction

Non-surgical fat reduction isn’t about going from a size 20 to a size two. The treatments — whether CoolSculpting, SculpSure, Kybella, or others — are most effective for people close to their goal weight who want to target stubborn areas of fat.

Love handles and bra bulge are popular treatment areas. Many also use the treatments to reduce double chins and tighten arms.

Although the treatments often produce similar results, they do so in a variety of ways. SculpSure uses lasers to target fat cells. Kybella is an injectable that does the same, while CoolSculpting uses cold to freeze and destroy fat.

“Crystallized fat cells die and disappear in a few weeks after treatment through your internal lymphatic system without any medical issues,” said Dr. Jason Emer, a Los Angeles dermatologic surgeon.
