We’ve interviewed some of our favorite top medical experts and moms on RealSelf to get their beauty and life advice — and celebrate all they do. Happy Mother’s Day!
A plastic surgeon on the Upper East Side of New York City, Dr. Lara Devgan is incredibly busy at her practice but also with her own medical-grade skincare line Dr. Devgan Scientific Beauty. A proponent of clean living, exercise, and SPF, her favorite quick fix for tired moms? Botox.
Read on for top beauty tips from this mom of five: four boys, ages 6, 3-year-old twins, and 2; and a 1-year-old girl. Dr. Devgan and her husband are expecting their sixth child this summer.
What is your biggest beauty challenge getting out the door in the a.m.?
Looking as good as my patients! No matter how early I wake up, I always wish I had an extra minute or two for my routine.
I am obsessed with medical-grade skincare, hence my namesake skincare line, and I think that healthy skin looks better than makeup. Thankfully this saves me time! I rarely leave the house without a spritz of my favorite fragrance, Platinum Hyaluronic Serum and Platinum SPF 45 Daily Tinted BB Cream from my line, a few swipes of mascara, and Platinum Lip Plump for plumping and pinking my lips.
What does your skincare routine include?
As a mother of six and busy plastic surgeon, I try to keep my skincare routine simple yet effective. I created a medical-grade skincare line as the set of products that I always wanted — a combination of luxury, best-in-class ingredients for skincare enthusiasts like me.
What else do you do to take care of yourself and stay healthy?
My kids make me happy and rejuvenate me! After a long day of patients and surgical cases, I gain so much joy seeing my children, hearing about their days and tucking them into bed. Throughout the day, I try to do simple things to stay healthy, such as staying hydrated and eating well. I love going to the gym and going to the park with my family, too.
What are the three biggest concerns most moms who see you have?
Busy moms clearly don’t get much sleep or have much allowance for downtime. Their three biggest concerns are:
- Refreshing tired eyes with injectables (tear trough augmentation) or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
- Reversing some of the changes associated with childbearing with breast augmentation, labiaplasty and tummy tuck.
- Minimally invasive tweaks to keep them feeling fresh without much downtime, such as Botox and fillers.
What’s your favorite OTC product for busy moms?
Platinum Glow Serum is an amazing retinoid that is gentle enough to be used by almost any skin type, but strong enough to have real results in reducing wrinkles and fine lines. That is a holy grail product for me.
What’s your favorite quick in-office treatment for moms?
Botox. Popular among moms of all ages and stages, including me.
What in-office treatments do you get yourself? What do you love?
I love it all. The best part about being a woman and a plastic surgeon is the limitless access to the forefront of beauty and the ability to appreciate it.
What’s the best beauty advice your mom shared with you?
Caring about your looks and caring about your brain is not a zero-sum game. You can be a woman of substance and still care about how you present yourself to the world.
What makes moms beautiful?
My work helps women and men look great, but true beauty is all about confidence, poise, compassion and capability. That is what makes moms beautiful.
